What We Believe
Advent is a church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The ELCA is the largest Lutheran denomination in America as well as the most theologically and biblically liberal.

We are a community of people with diverse beliefs, yet there are some core foundational beliefs we hold:
- We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God: Inspired by God’s Spirit speaking through the biblical authors, they record and announce God’s revelation centering in Jesus Christ.
- We believe that God also speaks to us in many and various ways beyond the scriptures: God’s Spirit speaking to us through creation, people, and events in the world throughout all of history, including today.
- We believe that God’s grace is absolute and free. God shares love, forgiveness, and salvation without our need to earn it through any means or works.
- We believe that we are called to serve the world, work for justice and peace, and to share the Good News of God’s love and grace with the world. We are God’s hands and feet in the world.
